Yuvan Shankar Raja

October 28, 2008

Yuvan Shankar Raja is going to fulfill one of his dreams, to start his own production house. And the first film he will produce will be based on his story.

The film will be directed by S.D. Sabba, currently shooting Maa with Bhumika. The reason for Yuvan starting his own movie production house is to make a film in the way he wants and enjoy total freedom.

Mirchi Shiva of Chennai-28 and Saroja fame will play lead in this romantic musical comedy, which will have music by Yuvan himself.

The buzz is that Yuvan is producing the movie to get even with director Selvaraghavan, his one time good friend now bitter enemy. Selva had unceremoniously thrown him out of Aayirathil Oruvan and replaced him with G.V Prakash.

When asked what happened to his company White Elephants which he formed with Selvaraghavan and cameraman Aravind Krishna, Yuvan tongue-in-cheek said : ” probably roaming in the forest”. It can also be a indirect dig at Selva who has been going around the forest areas for the last 18 months trying to finish his Aayirathil Oruvan!

Vaaranam Aayiram

October 23, 2008

Gautham Vasudev Menon, director of ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, had other ideas after he started directing the film and had reportedly wanted to produce the film too on ‘first copy’ basis. When the film had overshot its budget by several crores, producer Aascar Ravichandran had reportedly refused to provide even a single penny more than the amount mentioned in the agreement.

The subsequent attempt made by Menon to muster the amount needed was said to be the main reason for the film getting considerably delayed. After completing his film against many odds, Gautam had reportedly paid Ravichandran the production cost and has now ‘purchased’ the film from him. Gautham went on to sell the film for worldwide distribution to Aingaran Films at an undisclosed ‘high-profit’ rate.

The post-production and re-recording work are on in full swing to ensure that ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ releases on Deepavali day. This is Gautam’s second film with Suriya after his ‘Kakka Kakka’ that initially catapulted Suriya to his present superstar status. Gautam and Suriya are said to have become close pals after their second film together in ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, as a result of which Suriya has agreed to do another film too for Gautham Menon.
